Zoll studio
I’m returning to teach a weekly class at @zollstudio, on Wednesdays from 10am-1pm. I’m kicking it off with a free demo from a live model tomorrow, February 15. Here’s a painting I recently did over a couple of nights at the Tuesday open session at Zoll studio.
Current work in progress: a 24x18” of Noelle painted from life at my friend @karen_warshal ‘s studio in Baltimore. I always come away feeling warmed by the good companionship and conversations.
This Sunday is the reception of "Women from the Bible: Stories of Courage, Faith, Hope and Love", a show of paintings organized by my friend @karen_warshal . Karen took the initiative several years ago to begin creating a body of work based on Old Testament stories, and hired/arranged models in her Baltimore studio for months on end in order to paint exclusively from life. I was one of several grateful artists that were invited to paint alongside Karen during parts of her ambitious project. This painting of Ruth and Naomi is one of my two contributions to the show, which features work by friends @karen_warshal , @isaac_boyle , and others... The reception is this Sunday, Oct 3, from 2-4 at the Hoffberger Gallery (at the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation), 7401 Park Heights Ave., Baltimore.

I wanted to leave this painting as a colored gesture drawing of sorts, with exposed lines and simple geometry. The first gestural lines and dusting of paint has a delicate quality that I tend to lose as I “progress”, like a clumsy thumb might smear a moth’s wing. I’m trying to maintain this feeling longer into my paintings by being more mindful of each brushstroke.
